Job Search Engines you Should Know About
Hot Jobs from Yahoo
I have been impressed since this site opened. You can upload your resume to the site and have potential employers contacting you almost immediately. Be forewarned that spam jobs have gotten through, but Hot Jobs has done quite a bit to get rid of those types of distractions from their site.
I am impressed with the fact that they have implemented the use of Twitter notifications as part of letting you know when your job search query has come up with a new lead for you. It’s wonderful to move along with the flow of technology.
As with most online job search engines you are able to upload your resume to their site so you are searchable to employers who are online. Privacy options do allow you to not have your resume searchable, and have it there only for when you see a job that you are interested in. Make sure that you do not upload a resume that is in a template, this will cause all sorts of odd spacing errors.
Monster.com...
may actually be one of the best job search agents I have ever seen. Not only do they help you find what you are looking for in a job, but they also support you in every way possible. They help you with resumes, cover letters, resume writing services and so much more. They have articles on nearly every possible topic you could choose when it comes to your job search.
Monster also has discussion boards that you can go to in hopes of finding help with your job search, and support. Also they have articles that will assist you in preparing for your interview, and handling seasonal work if that is all you are looking for.
Career Builder...
is another free job search engine that will help you greatly in your job search. They have a wealth of knowledge and do things that most are not willing to do, customer service. Yes, you heard me right, customer service, right up front where everyone can find the number.
They have a job salary calculator that helps you determine which type of job that you are interested in based on the potential salary that that job brings in. I know that would have helped me out when I was in college determine my career path if I would have had a free tool like that at my disposal.
Employment Office – click on your state
Another top job search engine will be the one for the local unemployment office in your area. The benefit of checking with the unemployment office is that they will be able to hold all of your information in their systems and then send it to the potential employer. They also take care of certain standardized testing such as typing tests. They will administer the test, grade the test, and validate it for potential employers. Another benefit of checking the listings of the employment office in your area is the ability to search for local listings only. You are assured that you are not going to find listings in another state while searching this database.
Federal Job Search
There are many individuals who would be interested in working for the federal government. This is one of the free job search engines that will allow you to search for jobs by job title and will advise you of any other testing that you may need to take to qualify for application.
This site will allow you to search for private sector jobs as well as for overseas jobs. This will give you the opportunity to choose the job that is right for you at this particular moment in your life. Some individuals are interested in exploring the world and learning new things, while others are quite content with staying close to home and finding the career of their dreams.
Points to keep In Mind:
- Federal job search will find private sector
- Federal job search will find overseas jobs
- State unemployment will take care of standardized testing
- State unemployment will hold all of your paperwork and pass along to employer
- Career salary calculator’s are helpful in determining which job you may want to pursue
- Discussion boards provide support during your job search period
