You should take care in choosing your outfit and make sure that it is neither too showy (floral pattern, bold stripes, etc.) nor too short if you are a lady. If you are a man, you should wear a nice pair of black or navy blue slacks, with a white shirt and tie. Make sure you iron your clothing in order to remove all wrinkles.

If you are a female you need to make sure that the outfit you choose is neither too short nor too low cut. This will send out a message that you do not want a potential employer to receive. If you are wearing a skirt you want to make sure that it goes down to your knees and you are wearing stockings. The coloring of the outfit should be basic, such as black or navy blue. Another tip for preparing for a job interview that every woman needs to know, carry extra stockings in your glove compartment. Holes in stocking can occur at the most inopportune times, be prepared.

Make sure not to put on perfume or cologne when you are preparing for a job interview. There are individuals that have severe allergies and asthma and the perfume may cause them to have a severe allergy or asthma attack. You do not want to cause that problem for your potential employer. Something like that would not help in help your job search in any way.

Face to face interview preparation

You will want to prepare yourself for the inevitable questions that you will be asked at the interview. Of course there is no way to know the exact questions that may be asked while you are there, but there are several questions that are important when you are preparing for a job interview. It is important that you conduct a mock interview. You could conduct the interview either yourself, or with a friend or family member.

Points to Keep in Mind for Preparing for the Job Interview:

  • Show up to interview 15 minutes early
  • Do a test drive to the interview location
  • Practice your interview by yourself or with a friend
  • Make sure to look in a mirror when you practice the interview (eye contact)
  • No perfume or cologne
  • Wear neutral colors, preferably black or navy blue
  • Women: no short skirt or low cut blouses
  • Men: pants and shirts ironed
  • Local Library
  • Local Bookstore
  • Google Search Engine
  • Amazon or Ebay Search
