Employment Law in the Workplace

Know Your Rights with Employment Law

There are so many jobless people these days that sometimes getting any job is almost good enough. However, there are plenty of fly-by-night operations that a desperate job seeker can fall victim to.

This is why it's very important for you to choose an employer that practices employment law. Someone who says, I want a job, any job…! is bound to be disappointed with his boss if he doesn't do his research.

Which Companies Practice Employment Law?

Potential employers can provide a haven for many job seekers not just by giving them an adequate salary and decent working environment, but also by ensuring that their rights are protected when it comes to their employment.

While it will take a lot of exploration on your part to get details about your potential company, here are a few things to look out for:

Job Characteristic No. 1 ⁄ Union – Not all levels or ranks in the workplace have unions. A tell-tale sign, however, that an employer practices the law is the presence of unions for those who qualify under its protection. Most jobs linked to unions are the rank and file and blue-collar workers.

Job Characteristic No. 2 ⁄ Benefits – If you're new to the job it's best to ask about the benefits the company provides. If all you get is compensation (your salary) and you don't have any other benefits, such as Medicare or Hospital Insurance, then your employer isn't implementing the law.

Job Characteristic No. 3 ⁄ Employer of the Year – Every year, employers with outstanding performance in terms of people management and employee development are awarded the distinction of becoming employers of the year. If the job you're eyeing is in fact part of this elite group, it's worth pursuing a career there.
