Understanding the Job Description
What is a Job Description or 'JD'?
Let us not underestimate how a good job description can net a firm the best applicants. One of the most important things people seeking employment reads is job descriptions.
Someone who is interested in a certain job reads a job description to find out whether he wants to apply for the job or not. In general, a job description is used to fill an open position, to determine compensation and usually serves as basis for performance reviews.
Employment - What the 'JD' Tells You
A job description is a list of the general tasks or functions and responsibilities of a position. It also includes to whom the position reports to, specifications such as the qualifications needed, and the salary range for the position.
The 'Searcher'. Writing work descriptions begins with conducting a good job analysis. A job analysis includes examining the tasks, the methods used to complete the tasks, the purpose and responsibilities of the job, the relationship of the job to other jobs, and the qualifications needed for the job.
It should be dynamic, functional and up-to-date. Perhaps more importantly, it lists down exactly what is required from anybody wanting to apply for the open position. A job description should also include a job title, the location of the job, agreements and terms that relate to the job.
The 'Searchee'. Now, as the job seeker, it will do you good to properly digest the job description. There is no point applying for a position for which you are not qualified for. You will only be wasting time - both the employer's and yours.
Further, this gives a bad impression to the employer. And so instead of having the employer consider you for the open position or indeed for other positions, your application will most likely end in the Deleted folder.
